I started reading this series way back when and I ALMOST didn't bother to finish the first book and I cringe to think of what I almost missed. Nowadays, I get this weird heart palpitation whenever a new book in this series comes out. Oddly enough, I was saving this one for some reason, but once I got reading, the rest of my life got put on hold. This book is as good as all the others; each one has its own voice and each character has their own personal list of issues, making every book a strong competitor for the likes of Kristen Ashley or Nora Roberts. What makes Lisa Swallow's books really 'sing' are the details: each has its own unique writing style, interesting plot lines, characters, scenery and comedy to call it's own.Better still, these are not today's usual "hey I wrote 20 pages of crap, give me three dollars" books all over the net, nor are they the "to be continued - after you've refinanced your house to finish the 462 little bits I've teased you with along the way". No my dears, this a serious author who does real editing (instead of hoping WordPerfect got everything), and she puts real thought into making a story worthy of your time (and your three dollars). Even better, if you check her webby thingy she gives bunches of her writing stuff away for FREE (ummmmm, WHAT?!?! What is this "free" of which you speak? Look it up ladies, it's spectacular).
Okay, in conclusion, get reading Lisa Swallow''s books. Like now. They are entertaining, funny, sexy, inspired and they got that whole 'free' thing going on, so it don't get much better than that! I seriously doubt Amazon needs any more of your money (Barnes & Noble I'm not so sure about). Now quit reading my drivel and get downloading this fab series!!!
p.s.: (Lisa only please): Lisa, Sweetie, if you ever quit writing rockstar romances, I may have to save up money, buy a plane ticket and come to your house where I will promptly clean, do all your laundry, make a year's worth of meals and sort your mail. I figure it's better than kicking your ass, but if you still refuse keep my books going, I may go to plan B. Thank you Dearest. Toodles!

Loved it! I don't know how she does it but Lisa Swallow keeps producing original storylines revolving around a fun, believable and sexy group of characters. We got to see all our favourites from the Blue Phoenix books in Cadence, and got right inside the head of Jax Lewis, handsome lead guitarist of Ruby Riot. He tangles with Tegan, Bryn Hughes' little sister who is tenacious and ambitious, and ready to cash in on Bryn's half-hearted promise that she could one day come on tour with him. Jax falls for Tegan but he's just so adorably inept when it comes to saying the right thing. He might be great at charming the ladies but when it comes to a real relationship, Jax has a lot to learn. Amazing how one guy can be simultaneously so hilarious and so hot!
This book had exciting and poignant moments, laughter and heartsinks. I was a reader of the fortnightly serial from which this book came and I doubted back then whether Jax and Tegan could make it as a couple. They are both so stubborn and determined ... but the story had a fabulous ending and all I can say is, I'm a believer! I love that we got little tasters of Will and Nate's stories-to-come as well. Can't wait for the next Ruby Riot book!
I love Lisa Swallow's writing style. The characters and dialogue are so realistic I feel as if I'm really getting to know them. I especially like the change in narrator and getting to see things from both the hero's and heroine's view points. I got all three of the Ruby Riot books because I loved the Blue Phoenix books so much. I'm even rereading them while I wait for Lisa's next book to be released. About Cadence in particular, I like how the author portrays Jax and Tegan and shows how their age and immaturity (Jax's mostly) affects their actions and relationship especially compared to the relationships of the Blue Phoenix books whose characters are a bit older. As far as the portrayal of the rock star lifestyle and the actions of the fans, I can only assume it's realistic and wonder if fans really get so mean toward the girlfriends of their idols.
Quick recap Tegan wants to go on tour with her older brother Bryn’s band, Blue Phoenix (this is a spinoff of the Blue Phoenix series, which I have not read), so that she can continue to travel around Europe. Right off the bat she feels an attraction to Jax, guitarist for the opening band, Ruby Riot. Jax has been warned that he’s not to mess with Tegan, but of course the chemistry between the two is off the charts and they end up together. Jax isn’t the type that gets into relationships and Tegan is getting over a messy breakup. Soon the pressure of the rock star life becomes too much and they have to decide if the relationship is worth it.
I loved that this is a rock star series that features a non-American band. I’m not sure if that makes a difference to anyone else, but for me, the author did an excellent job of making the tour/rock star experience a little different from what I’ve become accustomed to.
My biggest issue though, was that it was really, really angsty. The back and forth, the “love me, love me not”, gets a bit much. I could have done without some of the immaturity of Tegan, and would have liked to have seen a little more development in Jax’s character, especially when called out on his reckless behavior. I did like the dual POV, especially Jax’s perspective and the story was easy to lost in. This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be checking out the rest of her titles!
