Wothington High is a school like no other. The links to the world we know are tenuous to say the least. Strange activities and even stranger people fill the book. The science (if you care to class this as science fiction) is even stranger than the setting.Oddly enough, none of that matters. The book is a fun and exciting read and if you accept that this is not competing with serious science fiction, it is thoroughly enjoyable with characters that are easy to believe. Great literature? Probably not. Entertaining? Most certainly.

There seem to be a lot of adults out there deriding this novel's silliness and unreality, but remember, it's listed as juvenile fiction. I know young adults, myself included, who have indulged in and enjoyed its jolliness, but as a middle grade book--well, it's to be enjoyed on its own merit, not compared to more, shall we say pubescent, young adult fiction. Anyone under 14 doesn't wonder about those "huh?" moments. Things happen in the plot that are explained simply as, "it's science," and left at that. I'm good with that.
Don't listen to the naysayers until you, or your child, have read it for yourself. )
The beginning of the book was normal but kinda slow. The turning point in the book was way to hi-tech and unexpected for me. Spies?! Hovercrafts?! Crazy! The book just lost control and all sense of meaning from then.
Incoherent would be a better description than strange. I can handle strange. It's the stupidity I can't stand. Don't bother.
This was a great book. I hope there is another one in the works. The characters were well developed and the story felt like you where apart of it!
I enjoyed reading this book very much. It was written well. I would consider this light reading so that helped make it a fast, fun read. The characters were likeable and you felt you knew them through the narrative. It had a bit of everything, teen angst, paranormal, fantasy and a little sci-fi. It does not delve into any of these topics heavily. It would be interesting to read a sequel.
